The Youth Centre for Skills Development.

We have experienced first-hand the negative effect of poverty upon the young people in Uganda; Poor children don’t always finish their education or don’t even have access to the education and training they need to get the knowledge and skills that can help them to become productive members of their community. The lack of access to education means that they will remain ignorant about the issues that affect their livelihoods. The Youth Centre for Skills Development is an alternative being developed to cater for the poverty-stricken school drop-outs, unemployed youth to acquire knowledge and skills that can help them to access employment or to start their enterprises.
The wider idea is to inspire and empower young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to reach their potential through training and education by introducing several vocations that suit their abilities and interests and supporting them to enter the current competitive job market. In an initial stage and launched in 2008 with the support of the Ministries with young people of the United Methodist Church’s Youth Service Fund, the center is currently offering the youth a variety of computer skills and Bible Study. This not only allows participants to encounter God or acquire positive self-esteem but also helps to put them in a better position to find employment and lead productive lives in their communities. Classes are open from Tuesday to Friday, 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm and Saturday, 9:00 Am – 3:00 pm
Needs for this project
Our community generously provided us with a venue that has served as a foundation for our work. However, as we continue to expand our impact, we are now working towards securing a permanent space to sustain and grow this vital project.
Our vision is to acquire at least 20 acres of land, 10 acres dedicated to vocational agriculture and the other 10 acres for a training center. This center will include a conference room, a chapel/connection lounge, toilets, an administration wing, and a kitchen, creating a comfortable learning environment for disadvantaged young people.
With the support of friends like you, we are confident that this dream will become a reality. Join us in making a lasting difference for future generations!
