The Chairperson of Masaka District Mr. Jude Mbabaali is overwhelmed by the advancement of Covid- 19 due to recklessness of the populations and wants the area to be totally locked down in order to stop the virus from spreading.
We would like to share with you the Chairperson's statement on the Covid- 19 situation in Masaka:
In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by Article 183 (1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as the political head of Masaka District, I am in consultation with fellow leaders of Masaka inclusive of elected, technical, medical and security and we are likely to enforce a total lockdown in the next 12 hours due to the real threat of corona.
The information available from our Covid- 19 Task Force Masaka shows that we have a number of people among the community who got in contact with the confirmed cases and these are currently everywhere in arcades and shops transacting business as usual but in the process spreading the virus.
This is going to be done in good faith to limit the exposure to risk to the already suspected contaminants. We have the support of the Central government on this matter. Police plus Kasijagirwa barracks have been put on notice to enforce this lockdown without mercy when the time comes. So this is to alert you finalize on all that you have to do.
In the meantime we commend the good work by the said Covid- 19 Task Force Masaka based at Masaka Referral Hospital, though they haven't received any monies from the center to facilitate their work, the job they have so far done in search and apprehending corona suspects is commendable.
Wish you the best amid sadness over coronavirus. Jude Mbabaali Chairman Masaka District.
